Sienna Crowhurst
Bachelor of Art and DesignWith a lineage rooted in Escapism and mindfulness, this sculptural paper work creates a space of refuge and solace. It temporarily diverts the mind from daily stressors and invites viewers to engage in a tranquil and mindful visual study.
Transfer paper, fishing line, tape adhesive, wooden planks, weights
With a quote from Henri Matisse in mind throughout the making process- (“What I dream of is an art of balance, of purity and serenity… something like a good armchair which provides relaxation from physical fatigue.”), I created this work with the intentionally simple underpinning of being peaceful and restorative. In this, I believe it holds the ability to recuperate and console in the face of personal and shared adversities, subsequently allaying accrued tension and angst.
I invite you to tranquilly study the sculpture’s billowing twists and voids and let the gentle tide-like, flowing movement of the paper guide you into a serene encounter with your present reality, momentarily occupying and easing your mind.
